Pets and the pandemic: impact of Pets on our mental health and wellbeing

Pets are the most divine form of the word relationship, and they have all the best qualities

you can ever ask for, which makes them a class apart from humans. They are like this

delivery of a package with all godly characters assimilated into one life, and it does make us

wonder from time to time if we deserve all this love?

In a world that has fell prey to malice and betrayal where there is hardly even a speck of

compassion and gratitude pets make it better with just their presence and no wonder, the

Egyptians prayed to dogs as their gods. These proud creatures, walk with such grace and

they vary in breeds according to the geographical locations.

The outburst of the COVID-19 pandemic has made our lives get to stand still and the Surge in cases has resulted in us practicing social distancing and contributed towards condemning us from travelling. Most of the states called in for a Lockdown, especially in 2021. A lot many lives lost, and many facing financial and mental challenges and did quite damage to a lot of us.

As uninvited the Pandemic felt, it surely did have a grave impact on our pets, especially when we couldn’t walk them for the usual duration we used to, or let them play with other pets. Our Pet’s have quite some progressive sense when it comes to knowing how we feel, and it is thus the good old phrase of how “A dog is a mans best friend”, takes pride.

It may seem all mystical, but it is true especially when pets can empathize with their keeper in times of death, turmoil and grief. Just as seemingly impossible it is for us to cope up with our mental health, the energy levels of our pets, however, kept us energized. The research performed by the University of New York concluded that the mental health of 90% of people who were pet parents had emotional stability and was able to cope up better.

The effect stress has had on all of us especially during the pandemic has been a memory that most of us do not want to think about, and the role pets have played has surely been of a great impact.

Our pets are our proud story, and they help us demarcate between how happiness works and what it means. This Pandemic has had us undergo innumerable losses and with it, there was a surge in loneliness especially with individuals who lived alone and their pets saved their lives undoubtedly.

Let’s acknowledge the love and compassion our pets offer to us and treat it with respect and give it back to them without expectations, as this is what shall teach us to love selflessly.

The Dog is a Gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, and not man’s. - Mark Twain
