7 Reasons Why to Adopt an Indian Dog Rather Than a Pedigree

Updated: Jun 3, 2021

Had dogs been endowed with the ability to speak our human-tongues, heartbreaking words as to why we don't pick they would have slipped out of our Indian doggos' mouths, making us hum "Awww" and adopting one of these adorable cuties. But they can't talk about our language and convince us now, can they? So, on their behalf, here are a few reasons for you to adopt these fur babies rather than a Pedigree dog.

Indian dogs adapt comfortably to our climate

As hard as it can be for a foreigner to get accustomed to our Indian climate, it is even harder for a furred non-native pet to adapt, making heat-strokes an increasingly common affair. Our Indian breeds, however, will sunbathe in our tropical climate, without feeling a prick; It is after all their natural habitat.

Money won't be a hindrance to raising these pooches

No fancy, branded, packed food. No AC. These four-legged domestic pets can bear the wrath of our Indian summer heat well, unlike their overseas counterparts, and will eat anything their family members eat or feed them from rice to bread, without throwing a fit or keeping a long face (pun intended).

They're exceedingly smart

Our Indian inhabitant canines are remarkably intelligent and may even outsmart the pedigrees. They're easy-to-train protective guards, affable companions, and can even be trained to become attentive hounds.

Indian doggies are almost effortless to maintain

Indies usually have thinner, shorter coats that don't fall too much due to their ability to adapt to our Indian climate, and a better immune system owing to their nativity. Conversely, non-native pedigree dogs may require frequent visits to the vet for skin infections or other health issues that don't exactly account for a pleasant experience, for you and your pet, nor are they pocket-friendly.

They're extremely easy to find

Hours and hours of searching that goes into finding a German shepherd, a Retriever or a Shih Tzu is not required to spot our country-paws; India being their homeland, all it takes is a few clicks on the Internet or a quick drive to the nearest shelter to locate them.

Some of our Indian breeds are at the brink of extinction

Did you know our never-ending obsession for all things international, including pups, has ensued in some of our native dog breeds becoming almost extinct? A few of the endangered Indian breeds are Chippiparai, Himalayan Mastiff, Kombai, Jonangai, Tazi, Kashmiri Sheepdog, Rampur hound, and Rajapalayam.

Put an end to Backyard Breeding and Puppy Mills

Buying dogs rather than adopting them encourages two heinous crimes: backyard breeding and puppy Mills. Backyard breeding – which refers to breeding dogs in substandard, rundown sheds that are horrifyingly shabby – is an outrageous act to participate in. Running a puppy mill, on the other hand, is a shady business that's beyond nightmarish. These puppy mills are viewed no better than a money-making factory whose owners will go to any lengths, unethical or unlawful, to profit from them such as illegal import of dogs.

Huskies, Labradors, beagles, heck all dogs are endearing but our domestic bundles of joy seem to be left out and are now in dire need of a home. It isn't fair to ignore them because they don't come across as posh enough. And, I bet any dog lover, like you, will agree.

But where to find them? Visit a nearby animal shelter or contact us. We will be glad to help you to find the perfect addition to your family like we've been doing in the past few years.

Rescue a dog, and you Rescue yourself!

Loyalty is in their blood; They won't abandon us, and so why don't we do the same?!
